The Women's Center The Women's Center Of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc. was established in 1976 to provide rape crisis counseling, but quickly expanded services to meet the needs of domestic violence victims as well. In 1978 the agency opened a shelter for battered and abused women, and began an "abused Women" hotline Phoenix House, the transitional housing program, opened in June 1991. Community Education services were established in 1993. Agency administration and counseling services are headquartered in New London; an additional full-service counseling office operates in Norwich. The Women's Center is the only agency in southeastern Connecticut focused solely on tproviding both domestic violence and sexual assault services. Our Mission To strive for a violence-free society by providing services to those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence.
